Today was our first official Parent-Teacher Conference. Considering he has only been in this country for 4 1/2 months and in Pre-school for all of 3 1/2 months he got a very good report. His weak spot: Language/reading; think the fact he is just learning English has something to do with that?
On the pre-school topic, Papa shared with me a little of their morning routine of late. It appears they have been arriving at the same time as one of Lukas' classmates. Miss Sophia has a baby brother that also goes to Goddard. Sophia and her father drop her brother off in the first room and Lukas plants himself on the little children's couch outside and waits for Sophia, sometimes as long as 5 minutes. It doesn't matter how much coaxing or pleading papa does, Lukas won't budge until she comes out. He then walks with her down the hall to their classroom. They take off their coats and put away their things before going to the class next door for morning playtime. He won't go next door until she is ready. How cute is that?
Ok, I know the title is Visit to Santa. After the conference we decided to take Lukas to visit Santa at the mall when it would hopefully be less crowded. We had no wait at all! He wasn't afraid of Santa but wasn't chatty like he usually is with most people he meets. His norm is to say hello to everyone he passes! We did manage to get a smile out of him for the official photo.
Unfortunately for Lukas, mama decided it would be a good time to go get his labwork done for his upcoming 4 yr old check-up. The lab was just a short drive from the mall. As soon as we walked in the building, keep in mind he had never been to this particular building before, he says "no shot?!" Yes, I told a little white lie, no shot, just a blood sample. He was fine until she asked us to get up in the chair. Then he started to cry and continued crying the whole time she drew his blood. He stopped as soon as he saw the hot wheel truck I had brought as a surprise for him. Not a pleasant experience but an improvement over the visit in August.
They had already sent the next person back and she was waiting in the background. Lukas had talked to her out front. She told him, "It's my turn next." Lukas then proceeded to escort her to the chair and tapped the tech on the leg and said, "her turn." We all laughed about that one. He stayed around to watch her get her blood drawn.
We definitely don't miss the shoves and crowds in the Square! Lukas is looking so good. Those labwork days are hard. Alina just had blood drawn for the second time on Monday. Everything looks good this time so hopefully we are done with that!
