The newest American Citizen arrives home

1 August 2009

The layover in Frankfurt and final flight home were trying to say the least. At times Lukas was completely unruley, but can you really blame a three year old for going ballistic when you have been traveling for what seems like an eternity, you don't understand what's going on or what your parent's are telling you? Mama and Papa weren't excactly in the best of moods either so who can really blame him.

To make matters worse we had to wait 45 minutes to clear the second immigration check point for persons entering on visas! We were greeted outside of customs by Grandma and Grandpa Robey and Aunt Rebecca, Ben, Kira and Sean. Lukas loved the balloons. Of course the last thing a 3 year old who has never worn a seat belt wants to do after traveling for over 24 hours is be put in a carseat with a 5 point harness. The poor little guy cried himself to sleep on the ride home.

When we finally got to the house Mommom and Poppop Cowell were their to greet us with a dinner provided by Aunt Debbie. He was thrilled to see yet another helium balloon.

We ended the long day with a tour of our bedroom and a bath before heading to bed. All of us got some much needed rest. We waited with him in his bed until he fell asleep and then headed to bed ourselves after a good long shower. He woke up twice calling out and we finally decided to put in bed with us so we could get some sleep. Papa woke up early and was quite the busy little bee waiting for Mama and Lukas to finally get up for the day.

We had a leisurely breakfast and then headed downstairs to see some of our new toys. The excavator and tricycle were a big hit! It wasn't the best weather day so we spent the day inside playing. After lunch Mama added Lukas to the medical plan while Papa went to the store for a few things to tide us over until we can go grocery shopping. When he came back the mail was here and Lukas had his first piece of mail. He hasn't even been home for a full 24 hrs yet. It was a reminder of his upcoming doctor's appointment. We all took a nap since it was a rainy afternoon. Lukas slept a good long time.

He is slowly getting use to the two dogs. He was scared at first but is warming up to them. Mikaela likes to sleep in his room at night but he isn't to sure when he wakes up and sees her. He calls both of them arf arfs.

He went to bed in his own bed again last night but kept waking up so Mama finally caved in and brought him to bed again. He had us all up at 6am! On a Saturday of all days! He spent the first part of the morning playing with puzzles and books given to him by the Zietowski family and playing with his art supplies. He thought it was great fun to play out in the backyard this morning inspite of the grass being wet. He even helped Papa cut the grass with his bubble mower from Mommom Shirley. We actually managed to get the bags unpacked and the laundry done this morning too.

Both my boys are napping which is the only reason I am able to post this. 3 year old hands love to play with the computer keys. Tomorrow he is going to his first cookout over at the Priest's house. We'll see how that goes before we plan any other outings.

He has his first doctor's appointment on Tuesday morning. We will post as we have time. Meanwhile, enjoy these photos.
