Aunt Cheryl made a knock out cake that captured Lukas' heart 100%! Not sure how we will top this on birthdays!
It's hard enough for a little boy to resist cupcakes within reach but add toy trucks and tractors to it and this is what happens...
He did eventually get to eat his cupcake...

Once again he received an abundance of wonderful gifts and a showering of love. Thank you to everyone who came and those of you who sent well wishes in your absence. As you can see Lukas' enjoyed showing off his new things.
When it came time to pack up Mr. Lukas wanted to ride in the back of the car. Mama managed to get him out by putting him in her cargo holder. He thought that was great fun as you can see....
Later in the week one of my co-workers gave me some trucks her son doesn't play with anymore and a nifty construction hat. He spotted them in the car when I picked him up from pre-school and decided he was wearing the hat home and holding one of the trucks. I could bearly get them in the door before he started playing with them.
Over the weekend we decided to start keeping a log of the words and phrases Lukas can say unprompted since he will be getting evaluated again in the near future by the EIS (early intervention services)group. It is a free service providing assistance and resources to children who have or are at risk for having disabilities. In Lukas' case, his language/speech development identified by the IA doctor in early September. Although she didn't feel it was of great concern she did recommend having this group evaluate him to get him enrolled just in case services were needed. I hadn't realized just how many words and phrases he had added to his vocabulary just in the last few weeks. I keep the log handy because he seems to add new words every day. His teachers have even commented that his english appears to be getting clearer.
Pre-school continues to go well, however, I had 2 separate chats from Miss Grace this week. Lukas' is currently big into copying what other children are doing. The first chat was no big deal, she just commented that he was not quite his usual self in the am which was unusual for him. It appears he decided to "mimic" one of the more "challenging" kids in his class. He didn't want to wash his hands (those who know Lukas know this is totally out of character!) or help out. The other chat was Friday when we picked him up early to head out of town for a friends wedding. The first part involved the same child from earlier in the week. It appears they got into a minor slapping dispute over a ball on the playground. I informed her this was not uncommon from the baby house and may partly be due to prior environment and starting to feel a little more secure and comfortable at pre-school. Unacceptable just the same but possible history. We will just chalk it up to an isolated incident for now and hope for the best as he matures and learns the rules of his new life.
Monday he has his first dentist appointment. That should be fun!!! ;)
